Welcome to the JSAF Gaiyo Naikai Sustainability page. At every level of sailing
event management, JSAF Gaiyo Naikai supports World Sailing’s ‘Sustainability
Agenda 2030’ initiative. World Sailing’s Sustainability Agenda 2030 outlines how
the sport will contribute to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs).
As organizers of events that see hundreds of stakeholders directly interact with the
ocean and its environs, the need for sustainable stewardship is of a high priority.
Further, JSAF Gaiyo Naikai recognize the opportunity for positive Social,
Environmental and Economic impacts that will be achieved via embedding
sustainability as a priority within the events we support.
JSAF Gaiyo Naikai will be working hard within our planning to ensure that we do
our best to support sustainable sailing events. When looking at what we can do to
support the global sustainability movement we will be looking at all three areas of
sustainability, namely, social, environmental and economic sustainability. We will
be looking to discuss and teach about sustainability and we will take action to
support sustainability.
Actions taken by JSAF Gaiyo Naikai recently include appointing a sustainability
officer who studied sustainability at post graduate University level, sending our
sustainability officer to design the sustainability plan for the 2019 Enoshima World
Cup, this plan was approved by World Sailing and was used at the 2019 Hempel
Enoshima World Cup. Most recently we registered JSAF Gaiyo Naikai with Plastics
Smart, and NGO which supports the environment by gathering “Plastics Smart”
campaigners together. This registration process was led by a JSAF Gaiyo Naikai
officer who has actual experience with Plastics Smart. It is important to JSAF Gaiyo
Naikai that we take action and employee our human and financial resources as
best we can.
We would love to hear from you if you have any ideas to support sustainability at
sailing events and we look forward to seeing you at upcoming sailing events we
support.
